Karen Pirhalla, campus executive officer for the Arlington Campus since October 2008, will retire June 1.

In her 32 years at the university, Pirhalla held progressively more responsible positions in administrative and academic units at Fairfax. She was a key player in the team that established the Prince William Campus, where she later became director of campus operations.

Prior to her current position, Pirhalla was for two years Mason’s executive director for regional campuses operations, a position in which she had an institutional perspective in overseeing Mason’s operations at Loudoun, Prince William and Arlington.

Pirhalla earned a BS in business administration from Mason in 1980.

Upon Pirhalla’s departure, Ron Carmichael, Prince William Campus executive officer, will coordinate operations for both campuses.
