The Institute of the Arts and Women’s Studies present a lecture demonstration by San Jose Taiko, a nearly all-female taiko drumming group of Asian Americans. Traditionally in Japan, taiko drumming is only done by men. The free lecture is held on Thursday, March 30, at 5 p.m. in Harris Theater, and is followed by a meet-the-artists reception.
San Jose Taiko performs in the Concert Hall on Saturday, April 1. The group has been mesmerizing audiences with the propulsive sounds of the Japanese taiko by blending traditional Japanese, Latin, Brazilian, and African rhythms with incredible precision.
Tickets are $30, $26, and $20. To order tickets by phone, call ProTix at (703) 218-6500, or visit ProTix online.
