The public is invited to attend a hearing of the 21st Century Workforce Commission tomorrow in the boardroom of Mason Hall, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m.
The commission was created by the Workforce Investment Act, which was signed into law in 1998. The commission’s purpose is to conduct a study of the information technology workforce in the United States to determine what skills the market requires of its workers, how the nation can increase the magnitude of its IT workforce, and how the nation’s IT education programs compare with those of other countries. The commission makes its recommendations to the president and the U.S. Congress by May 16.
The hearing consists of four panels, featuring leaders from local industry, government, education, and the nonprofit sector.
