Upcoming projects show Mason’s concern for the larger community.

Women and Gender Studies Raising Money for Haiti and Chile

Raffle tickets for $1 have been sold at kiosks in the Johnson Center and in the Women and Gender Studies Center. The money raised will go to Beyond Borders and the American Red Cross.

On Wednesday March 31, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Women and Gender Studies Center (Johnson Center, Room 240K) a drawing will be held for an iPod Nano and other great prizes such as quilts, Saxbys gift cards, a year’s worth of free cookies, dance lessons, tarot card readings and more.

Student Government Supports Fisher House Foundation

On Monday April 5, from 5 to 9 p.m., Mason’s Student Government will host a benefit at the Rathskeller to support the Fisher House Foundation, an international nonprofit that operates houses where military families stay over extended time periods, at no financial cost, when visiting wounded loved ones at veterans’ hospitals.

During the benefit, Mason Dining will donate 15 percent of all proceeds to Fisher House. Funds raised will support the construction of three new Fisher Houses on the National Naval Medical Center’s Bethesda, Md., campus. This is a genuine need, regionally and nationally, as Walter Reed Army Medical Center is projected to close in 2010 and move to a new Bethesda facility.

Additionally, Mason community members can send donations online.
