The ever-evolving Johnson Center has a new feature sure to please on-campus news junkies. The News Center, a student government initiative, has been created to allow quick and easy access to local, national, and world news, in one central location.

Located directly in front of the Student Government offices, the News Center has two televisions that run CNN Headline News and local News Channel 8 continuously throughout the day. The News Center soon will receive computer terminals with access restricted to a few major media outlets, including the Associated Press and National Public Radio websites. The Washington Post, USA Today, the Fairfax Journal, and Broadside are all available at the News Center as well.

The idea for the News Center was developed last year when student government officials decided students needed more access to local and world news while on campus. In the future, with help from Art and Visual Technologies, murals will be painted on the wall opposite the televisions and on the column in the middle of the space, although a theme for the painting has not been decided, says student Bennett Smith of the Student Senate.
