Applications to fill the 2010-11 student representative positions for the Board of Visitors (BOV) are now being accepted by the Office of University Life.

Students with good academic performance records and effective leadership skills are encouraged to apply. The two appointed students serve as liaisons to the BOV for student concerns.

Applications and more information can be found online.

Completed applications should be submitted to the Office of the Vice President for University Life, Mason Hall, Room D105, by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 22. The application asks for up to three letters of recommendation by faculty or staff members.

The BOV was created by an act of the Virginia General Assembly when the university became an independent institution.

The board is a corporate body serving under the leadership of a rector, vice rector and secretary. The 16 members of the BOV are appointed by the governor on a rotating basis to serve four-year terms.

Two student representatives (non-voting) are appointed by the board each year at the May meeting to serve a one-year term.

The full board meets approximately five times per year on Wednesdays during the academic year.
