George Mason master police officer Stuart P. Strange is honored today at the Virginia State Capitol for his achievements in the TOP COP Fitness Challenge, a voluntary, six-event competition challenging police officers statewide to excel in physical fitness. Strange placed first in the men’s 20-29 age group, and was the second-place, overall winner of the October competition, which featured more than 125 male and female officers.

Strange receives a trophy and $200 cash provided by the Division of Risk Management, Columbia HAC Hospitals, and Virginia Mutual Insurance Company. He also gets a TOP COP white golf shirt and a blue T-shirt provided by the Department of Criminal Justice Services. The awards are presented by Gary Aronhalt, secretary of Public Safety, and Joe Benedetti, director of the Department of Criminal Justice Services.

The university’s own David Bever, Health, Fitness, and Recreation Resources, developed the TOP COP program, in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, to address the health and fitness needs of law enforcement agencies.
