There is more than one way to make your heart happy in February. The Wellness by Mason program in Human Resources and Payroll has planned a full schedule of events to help you do something special for your heart and health.

Friday, Feb. 5 – Wear Red Day and Take a Walk
Wearing red on this day supports the American Heart Association’s quest to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke. Take some pictures to commemorate the event and send them to to be posted on Mason’s Go Red Gallery.

Patrice Winter, director of Wellness by Mason, will be at the Fairfax Campus Mason clock on the Johnson Center Plaza at noon on Friday, Feb. 5.  Join her for a short campus walk. If you work at the Arlington or Prince William Campus, round up some co-workers and take a spin around campus.

Monday, Feb. 8 – “The Biggest Loser” Personal Trainer, Bob Harper
A videoconference session with Bob Harper, one of the two personal trainers on the hit show “The Biggest Loser,” will be offered. Harper will address Commonwealth of Virginia employees at the Greater Richmond Convention Center on “positive ways to improve your health, your habits and your life.”  Head to the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall at 9:15 a.m.  Hear from some of our Wellness by Mason partners and see Harper’s presentation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. This program is sponsored by Anthem, the Department of Human Resource Management and CommonHealth. The session will also be recorded for viewing later on the HR and Payroll web site.

Monday, Feb. 8 – Mason Recreation “Resolution Solution Fitness Challenge” Kick Off

Mason Recreation, a partner in Wellness by Mason, is inviting all Mason departments to take the Resolution Solution Fitness Challenge. Join your colleagues in a fun 12-week program (Feb. 8 – April 30) for a chance to win great prizes while getting fit. Information on the program and registration is at Resolution Solution Fitness Challenge.

HR and Payroll will be taking the challenge. We hope you’ll join us.

Friday, Feb. 12 – Fitness Fridays Begin
As part of Mason Wellness Days, Mason Recreation will host Fitness Fridays at the Recreation and Athletic Complex (RAC) on the Fairfax Campus on Fridays at noon. Come participate in “Lunch & Burn,” a light exercise program in the Cage Gym.  Go to the RAC front check-in desk to receive instructions on how to get to the Cage Gym and sign in. This class will offer two miles toward the Resolution Solution Fitness Challenge.  Fitness Fridays will take place through the entire 2010 spring semester and are available to members and nonmembers of Mason Recreation.
