With decorated offices and a week packed with spirited events, George Mason is loudly Screamin’ Green as Homecoming 2000 gets underway. Today–Green and Gold Day–marks the beginning of the festivities leading up to the pre-game block party, basketball game, and Midnight Masquerade on Saturday, Feb. 26. For more information about events throughout the week, visit the Homecoming 2000 website.
The homecoming court is announced in the Johnson Center Atrium at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and the bonfire on Wednesday promises to ignite spirits as it warms up the night. Hot beverages are provided, and the event begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday’s activities begin with the pep rally at 12:30 p.m. in the Johnson Center Atrium, while Ciao Hall dresses up for the Homecoming White Linen Dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. The cash price is $6.75, and meal plans and Mason Money also are accepted. A comedy show follows dinner at 8 p.m. in the Marketplace. Admission is $3 for George Mason students and $5 for the general public. The Battle of the Bands on Friday night doubles as a fund-raiser for Baileys Crossroads Community Center. The music goes from 7 p.m. until midnight in the Johnson Center Multipurpose Room, and a portion of the $3 admission benefits the community center.
Game day begins on Saturday with the pre-game block party at 2 p.m. in Parking Lot L near the west entrance of the Patriot Center. WWZZ-FM (Z104) provides music and prizes, and food is available in the heated tent for those who don’t bring their own. The Patriots take the floor against the James Madison University Dukes at 4:30 p.m. in the Patriot Center. For ticket information, call x33270; George Mason students are admitted free. Homecoming 2000 draws to a close at the free Midnight Masquerade Ball from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Johnson Center Multipurpose Room. Here the homecoming king and queen are crowned and the Spirit Contest winner is announced.
