Unmasque Your Spirit for Homecoming 2010

Taking a cue from the New Orleans French-style celebration of Mardi Gras (which falls just a few days before Mason’s Homecoming), the Homecoming Committee has selected “Unmasque Your Spirit” as the theme for this year’s celebration, which culminates with the men’s basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 20 (time and opponent to be determined).

Highlights of the week follow. All events are free and held on the Fairfax Campus.

Monday, Feb. 15

  • Mardi Gras Madness

Homecoming pep rally featuring the athletic teams, Homecoming pageant contestants, the pep band and Mason dignitaries.

Johnson Center Atrium, 12:30 p.m.

  • “The Big Easy” Pageant

Dewberry Hall, 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 16

  • Can-Can for Cans

Student teams participate in the annual Can-Struction competition. Donated nonperishables are built into elaborate structures and later donated to a local food bank.

Johnson Center North Plaza, 3:30 p.m. (rain site: Student Union Building II Ballroom)

  • Show Us Your Talent Show

Student Union Building II Ballroom, 8 to 10 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 17

  • Mardi Gras Photo Fun

  • Lip Syncing on the Bayou

Johnson Center, Dewberry Hall, 8 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 18

  • Unmasque Your Spirit Fun for Everyone

Arts and crafts and other fun activities.

  • Bourbon Street Komedy Jam

Featuring Dan Ahdoot and Arvin Mitchell.

Friday, Feb. 19

  • Canal Street Concert with Safety Suit

Johnson Center Atrium, 8 p.m.

  • The Masquerade Affair

Dance party with DJ 5’9” and fun casino games.

Student Union Building II Ballroom, 9 to 11 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 20

  • Homecoming Parade

Community members, student organizations, marching bands and more parade around “Cercle de Patriote.”

East side of Patriot Center (time to be determined)

  • Pregame Block Party

Heated tents and family-friendly area with interactive games, crafts and face painting.
