With 227 career blocked shots, senior Trish Halpin has become the Colonial Athletic Association’s (CAA) all-time leader in blocks. Halpin surpasses Nyree Roberts of Old Dominion, who had 214 blocks from 1994 to 1998.
“Trish’s best defensive weapon is that she is a great shot blocker and can block shots with both hands,” says third-year head basketball coach Debbie Taneyhill. “It’s a real honor for Trish and our program to be represented in the CAA with such a record.”
Halpin also holds the distinction of being the all-time shot blocker in George Mason history. She moved into first place in January of her junior season. That year she finished with a Patriot record of 75 blocks, and she was sixth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Halpin is currently averaging 10.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. She has notched double figures in scoring in 13 games and double figure rebounds in two games. Over her career, she has scored in double figures on 46 occasions and she has six double-doubles. Halpin needs just 91 more points to reach 1,000 career points. Earlier this season she surpassed the 500 rebound mark and she now has 553. She ranks in the top 20 in the Patriot record books for points, rebounds, blocks, steals, and assists.
