Mason Instructor Don Stumpo Dies

Don Stumpo, an instructor in the Communication Department who was also a producer and cameraman at NBC4 in Washington, D.C., died from kidney failure on Saturday, Nov. 14.
According to his colleague Steve Klein, instructor in the Communication Department, Stumpo produced the “George Michael Sports Machine” show on NBC4 for many years.
Stumpo initiated the Electronic News Gathering and Editing course at Mason two years ago and was to have taught the class for the third time this spring. He had also taught videography for the Communication Department.
Stumpo was profiled in the Mason Gazette last spring.
He is survived by his wife, Irina, and daughters Monika, Veronika and Lucy Stumpo.
Klein says that funeral services for Stumpo will be held later in the week in Philadelphia, where he will be buried. The Stumpo family will be receiving visitors on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 1:30 to 9 p.m. at their home, 826 S. Quincy Street, Arlington, VA 22204-1562.
The Stumpo family plans a memorial service in Arlington, Va., at a later date.
