Two of Mason’s dining establishments will have expanded hours starting Monday, Nov. 2, and other changes are in the works.

Burrito Del Rey, the lunchtime favorite in Student Union Building I (SUB I), is increasing its hours to 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Previously, the restaurant closed at 3 p.m. The restaurant will remain closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Freshens located in the RAC (Recreational Athletic Complex) will be open from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend hours will depend on the events taking place there. Previously, the Freshens was open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Jazzman’s location in the Sandy Creek shuttle bus waiting area will be moved to Fenwick Library after Thanksgiving break, says Denise Ammaccapane, resident district manager for Mason Dining.

After winter break, the Art and Design Building will have a Jazzman’s on the lower level near the studios, Ammaccapane says, bringing the total of Jazzman’s sites on the Fairfax Campus to four. The other locations are in the Johnson Center and SUB I.

Mason Dining is continuing the faculty/staff discount at the Bistro this semester. Mason faculty and staff members pay $5.25 to eat at the Bistro – or an even $5 if they have a BYTE meal plan.

Finally, Dining Services is still taking suggestions for the special Mason cookie featured in the cookie-naming contest held on Oct. 9 at Southside. The cookie is oatmeal-based and features toffee, chocolate chips, coconut and dried cherries. So far, Ammaccapane has received 500 suggestions and is looking for more. The winner receives a $20 gift card. E-mail your suggestions to Ammaccapane at
