University Police to Receive Reaccreditation Assessment

As part of its reaccreditation process, University Police/Department of Public Safety is undergoing an onsite assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. Members of the university community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Center Multipurpose Room. Telephone comments will be accepted by the assessment team on Monday, Jan. 24, from 1 to 5 p.m., at x33831. Written comments may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., 10306 Eaton Place, Suite 320, Fairfax, VA 22030-2201.
As part of the voluntary process initiated by the department to gain reaccreditation, the assessment team examines all aspects of the department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.
According to Maj. Albert Oglesby, accreditation program manager, the assessment team comprises law enforcement practitioners from similar but out-of-state agencies. The assessors review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other places where compliance can be witnessed. Once they complete their review, they report back to the commission, which will then decide if the department is to be granted accredited status.
