At its meeting on Sept. 30, Mason’s Board of Visitors (BOV) approved four new degrees, which now go to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia for approval.

The degrees are

  • PhD in Rehabilitation Science. The degree would be administered by the Department of Global and Community Health in the College of Health and Human Services.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice. The degree would be offered through the School of Nursing in the College of Health and Human Services.
  • BS in Bioengineering. The degree would be administered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering, but would have a multidisciplinary faculty.
  • MA in Higher Education. This degree would replace the existing Master of Integrative Studies (MAIS) with a concentration in higher education. The degree would be based within the Higher Education Program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The BOV also conferred emeritus status on Michael Bronzini, the inaugural Dewberry Chair of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering, who retired earlier this year.
