This fall’s fair for Mason students and alumni will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Career Fairs are a great opportunity for students to meet alumni and employers in person, but how can they stand out from the crowd?

To get the answer, Career Services surveyed employers that regularly attend the fair. They said that students who know these four points about their organization will get attention:

  • Services or products provided
  • Positions currently available
  • Mission statement
  • Organizational values and philosophy

The best way to help students stand out is to encourage them to research ahead of time the employers they’re interested in.

In preparation for the fair, employers will critique resumes at Career Services’ Resume Clinics on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Monday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson Center, Room 116.

In addition, Career Services offers workshops to inform students on what to expect at the fair, and its Prepare for the Fair page links to valuable resources such as networking advice, pointers on dressing professionally and tips on interviewing and resume writing.
