Over the next two years, the Fairfax and Prince William Campuses can expect to see construction crews as a regular campus fixture. In 2000, crews will begin construction of Prince William’s third academic building and an academic building and a Parking Deck addition on the Fairfax Campus.
A 294-space addition to the Parking Deck will begin in February. The addition will be built to the left side of the current deck, toward the student apartments. The deck is expected to be complete by late December.
Academic IV, the $14.5-million building planned for the Fairfax Campus, will be constructed adjacent to College Hall, just southwest of the Johnson Center. Its size will be similar to that of Enterprise Hall, with about 90 percent of the space for classrooms and 10 percent for offices. Construction is slated to begin in early 2001, with a move-in date scheduled for December 2002.
Right on the heels of the new Fairfax building will be Prince William III-A, a 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility to be built between Prince William I and the Freedom Aquatic Center on the Prince William Campus. It will have equal classroom and office space, and its construction will run only a month or two behind Academic IV. Move-in is scheduled for early 2003.
A current Fairfax Campus project will be ready just in time for Virginia’s sweltering summer heat waves–the addition of two new chillers will be complete in late May, increasing building cooling capacity by 25 percent across campus.
