The Board of Visitors (BOV) Faculty and Academic Standards Committee continued its discussion on the possibility of revising George Mason’s general education requirements at a meeting held on Nov. 16.
The faculty committee shared information it had gathered since its last meeting with the BOV in October, including a review of general education requirements by degree program, a summary of the top 30 courses freshmen took in fall 1997, and information from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia that lists how well public institutions meet “recommended characteristics” of their general education courses.
While no action was taken at this meeting, the BOV committee seemed satisfied with the status of the faculty committee’s efforts and reaffirmed its commitment to begin implementing changes in George Mason’s general education requirements during the upcoming spring semester.
