David Cooper, assistant vice president for development at the University of Maryland University College, is the new director of university development for George Mason, announced Judith Marshall Jobbitt, vice president of university development and alumni affairs. His appointment is effective Dec. 1.
“David has significant capital campaign experience, a record of fund-raising success, and knowledge of the greater Washington area. I am most pleased he has accepted this key position,” says Jobbitt.
Before assuming his current position, Cooper was vice president for alumnae and development at Peace College in North Carolina, and director of capital programs at Loyola College in Maryland. He also served as director of development for the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore. In recent years he has managed all aspects of development–annual giving, planned giving, special events, and alumni/constituent relations.
Before he entered the development field, Cooper served as an ordained minister and a chaplain resident at a hospital in North Carolina. Cooper has a B.S. in Religion from Campbell University and an M.Div. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also earned a certificate in professional leadership from Loyola College.
