Once again, Mason’s New Century College is providing one-week summer enrichment camps for children in grades 3 to 8, with the first one beginning July 13.
“New Horizons” camp counselors are Mason students and alumni. Each counselor has been educated in the content matter of the camps as well as in the developmental issues of children and youth.
Prior to camp, the students participate in intensive summer courses, which prepare them to teach the campers and to serve as counselors. They have been trained to facilitate the leadership, creativity, math, science or environmental camp curriculum, and they have all participated in one of the three-credit courses that provide structure and support for creating valuable curricula, activities and camp administration. New Century College professors teach all of these courses.
Camps offered this year are
- New Horizons Leadership Camp, July 13-17, for 6th to 8th graders
- New Horizons Creativity Camp, July 13-17, for 3rd to 5th graders
- New Horizons Science Camp, July 20-24, for 6th to 8th graders
- New Horizons Environmental Camp, July 20-24, for 3rd to 5th graders
- New Horizons Math Mania Camp, July 20-24, for 3rd to 5th graders
The camps are open to the public and are held on Mason’s Fairfax Campus from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for $400 per week ($360 for Mason employees). The After-Camp Computer Club is offered from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for an additional $80.
The Mason employee discount applies to children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of Mason faculty, staff and students.
