Fifth-seeded Mason advanced to the quarterfinal round of the EIVA Men’s Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 win over eighth-seeded Harvard on Wednesday evening at the Field House.
The Patriots will travel to Springfield, Mass., to take on fourth-seeded Springfield College on Saturday at 7 p.m. A berth in the EIVA Semifinals at Penn State’s Rec Hall is on the line.
At the same time, Mason senior opposite hitter Kyle Gramit was named First-Team EIVA All-East. It is the third consecutive first team honor for the native of Naperville, Ill.
Gramit, a Second-Team AVCA All-America selection last season, ranks in the top 10 in the nation in both aces per set and kills per set.
Gramit is fifth in the country in aces per set with an average of 0.51 and ninth in kills per set with an average of 4.76. In addition to his ace and kill averages, Gramit has also posted averages of 5.67 points per set, 1.51 digs per set and 0.73 blocks per set this season.
Gramit was one of 10 players selected to the first team through a vote of the conference’s head coaches.
With the win over the Crimson, the Patriots improve to 13-15 overall.
