At its meeting on March 25, Mason’s Board of Visitors (BOV) set tuition and fee rates for summer 2009 and approved two new degrees.

The summer 2009 tuition and fee rates reflect an increase over the current (2008-09) academic year rates as follows:

  • In-state undergraduates will pay $337 per credit hour, a $24 increase

  • In-state graduates will pay $406 per credit hour, a $36 increase

(some graduate programs have higher rates)

  • Out-of-state undergraduates will pay $1,003 per credit hour, a $66.50 increase

  • Out-of-state graduates will pay $995 per credit hour, a $67 increase

(some graduate programs have higher rates)

  • In-state law students will pay $734 per credit hour, a $65 increase

  • Out-of-state law students will pay $1,222 per credit hour, an $81 increase

Because decisions on the university budget will not be finalized until the May 2009 BOV meeting, it is possible that the rates for the 2009-10 academic year could differ from the summer 2009 rates.

In other action, the BOV approved a new BA in Russian and Eurasian Studies degree program and an MS in Geoinformatics and Geospatial Intelligence degree program. These programs now go to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia for approval.

The BOV also conferred emeritus or emerita status on the following faculty members:

Frieda Butler, global and community health, College of Health and Human Services (effective June 25, 2009); Mary Ann Dzama, education, College of Education and Human Development; Peter Klappert, English, College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Lenore J. Weitzman, Clarence J. Robinson Professor of Sociology and Law (effective June 1, 2009).
