Two Mason faculty members will be heard on the public radio show “With Good Reason” beginning Saturday, March 21.
Mason’s WGMU radio station will broadcast the program through its web site on Thursday, March 26, at 8:30 a.m.
The topic is “A Liberal Education,” and the two professors will debate whether American universities are bastions of liberal bias that unduly influence the politics of their students.
Public Policy adjunct professor Bruce Smith says that contrary to popular belief, the problem with U.S. education is too little politics, not too much. Smith wrote the book “Closed Minds” with Jerry Mayer and Lee Fritschler.
Taking the other side is Daniel Klein, professor of economics, who says the nature of university hiring tends to favor those on the left. Klein’s teaching and writing have focused on economic principles and public policy issues.
A podcast of the program is also available through iTunes.
Audio files of the full program and its companion news feature will be posted to the web site at a permanent link.
