Applications for the 2009-10 Fenwick Fellow Program are being accepted through Friday, April 24.
One fellowship will be awarded for the 2009-10 academic year. The competition is open to all tenured and tenure-track faculty members at Mason. The selection of the fellow will be announced by the end of this semester.
The Fenwick Fellow Program is intended to assist research by faculty members as well as enhance the collections of the University Libraries. The fellowship provides a $5,000 award for research materials and assistance, along with an office in the Fenwick Library.
Fellows are encouraged to allocate approximately half the award for acquisition of books, journals or multimedia materials, which will be added to the libraries’ permanent collection.
The following year after the fellowship is completed, the libraries will sponsor a public Fenwick Fellow lecture during the spring semester.
Applicants should submit a brief proposal and curriculum vitae, including information about the applicant’s current position, teaching and research responsibilities at Mason. The proposals should contain a short project summary and information about the following:
- The central problem to be addressed
- The applicant’s previous work in the general area
- Research methodologies to be used
- The need for research space in the library
- A budget for specific materials and/or services to be purchased with the award
- Expected results of the fellowship
A selection committee composed of six members (three faculty members and three librarians) will review the applications.
One research proposal will be selected and recommended to the University Librarian. Complete application instructions are contained within the program guidelines.
Additional questions can be directed to Debra Hogan in the university librarian’s office or call 703-993-2491.
