Names for Mason Campus Buildings, Streets Announced

Mason’s Naming Committee recently made more headway in the challenging process of naming buildings, streets and other landmarks on the campuses. With so much new construction, the committee has had to step up its meeting schedule to keep pace.

Following are some recent naming decisions.

Project name: Academic VI / Research II (Fairfax Campus)

New name: The Engineering Building

Project name: Arlington II (Arlington Campus)

New name: Founders Hall

-Virginia Square will be called “Virginia Square Plaza”

Project name: Hotel and Conference Center (Fairfax Campus)

New name: The Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel

Project name: Parking Deck III (Fairfax Campus)

New name: Rappahannock River Parking Deck

Old name: The Physical Education Building (Fairfax Campus)

New name: The RAC (Recreation and Athletic Complex)

-Robinson Field will be called “RAC Field”

Also, many road names on the Fairfax Campus were unanimously approved by the committee and are expected to be adopted, pending Mason Board of Visitors approval.

Old name: George Mason Boulevard and Aquia River Lane

New name: Aquia Creek Lane

Old name: Po River Lane (south of the Patriot Center)

New name: Pohick Creek Lane

Old name: Rappahannock River Lane (west of the new parking deck)

New name: Rappahannock River Road

Project name: Spur Road

New name: University Drive (pending approval from Fairfax City officials)
