Two Mason divers were recognized for their outstanding performance this past weekend, as sophomore Lisa Faulkner and freshman Bryan Bahr were named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Women’s and Men’s Diver of the Week, respectively.
It is the second weekly honor of the season for Faulkner, the reigning CAA Women’s Rookie Diver of the Year. She was recognized on Oct. 14 of this season as well.
Bahr, meanwhile, has earned the honor three times in his rookie season with the Patriots.
In the recent quad meet against American, Old Dominion and host Army, Bahr swept the men’s diving events, winning the one-meter and three-meter with scores of 268.95 and 329.95, respectively.
Faulkner nearly matched the feat, as she won the three-meter dive with a score of 297.70. She placed second in the one-meter dive (259.60).
Mason closes out the 2008-09 regular season on Jan. 31 with a noon meet at George Washington.
In wrestling, freshman 174-pounder Mendbagana Tovuujav was named the CAA Wrestling Rookie of the Week for his efforts during the week ending on Jan. 25. Tovuujav also won the CAA Rookie of the Week award on Jan. 6.
Tovuujav, a native of Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia, posted a 2-0 record in a pair of dual matches this past week. In the Patriots’ 31-12 thrashing of VMI last Thursday, Tovuujav pinned the Keydets’ Vincent Gallo in 30 seconds.
On Sunday at the Field House, Tovuujav earned a 22-8 major decision victory over Columbia’s Mike Wolfer. Tovuujav, no. 19 in the country according to Amateur Wrestling News, was on the attack from the opening whistle with five takedowns in the first period and 10 total in the match. Wolfer didn’t have a single takedown during the contest.
Tovuujav’s record stands at 17-5 overall and 10-1 in dual matches this season. Among those 17 wins, he has recorded four falls, one technical fall and four major decisions.
