At its first meeting of the spring semester on Jan. 21, the Faculty Senate discussed a proposed policy on transition leave for faculty members who are retiring and passed resolutions regarding evaluation of the Mason president and provost and follow-up to a previous resolution sent to the president.
- The senate voted to have a group of senators meet with Provost Peter Stearns to discuss the proposed policy on faculty retirement transition leave before it is finalized.
- The senate voted to conduct an annual evaluation of how effectively the president and provost have interacted with the Faculty Senate during the preceding academic year. The results will be shared with the general faculty and the Board of Visitors.
- The senate voted to send a follow-up communication to President Alan Merten requesting his response to the body’s earlier request that he contribute his most recent performance bonus and salary increase toward student financial aid.
