The Mason community is encouraged to come to the Johnson Center on Monday, Nov. 17, at noon for the Mason Pep Rally. The event will showcase Mason’s Colonial Athletic Association Champion men’s soccer team, kick off the basketball season and announce the Mason Celebrity Weekend.

DJ Iran and Antonio the Cuban Cigar Smoker will be broadcasting live for 93.9 WKYS in the Johnson Center at noon, and fellow sponsor Coca-Cola will be giving away T-shirts.

The men’s basketball team is already off to a good start for the season, and plays its home opener at 7 p.m. tonight at the Patriot Center.

The team won its season opener in overtime at Vermont, beating the Catamounts, 80-79, on Saturday. It gave Mason its sixth-straight season-opening win, setting a team record.

Darryl Monroe made a pair of free throws with 0.7 remaining on the clock in overtime. Monroe, who missed all of last season with an injury, returned to the lineup and had the third double-double of his career. He set career highs with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

A pair of freshmen played huge roles for the Patriots off the bench as Ryan Pearson had 13 points and six rebounds while Andre Cornelius had nine points and five assists. Cam Long had 16 points while John Vaughan had 12.

Come out and show your Mason support for the Patriot teams!
