Mason Dining and Sodexo Inc., a leading U.S. food and facilities management services company, are responding to the growing need during tough economic times with a community-wide appeal for nonperishable food items as part of the nationwide “Cans Across America” effort sponsored by Sodexo.
Canned or nonperishable food items will be collected at all Mason dining facilities on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The one-day collection campaign will be part of what Sodexo says is the “largest food drive by a noncharitable organization in a 24-hour period.”
With the drive, the company hopes to break the record in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Sodexo services at more than 530 colleges and universities and other facilities will strive to collect more than 396,833 pounds of nonperishable food to break the Guinness record.
Mason Dining and Sodexo will donate the collected food items to the Capital Area Food Bank.
