Basketball season will officially tip off at Mason on Friday night when the Mason basketball teams host Mason Madness, the highlight of Family Weekend. The 12th annual event begins at 9:30 p.m. in the Patriot Center. Doors will open at 9 p.m., and admission is free to the entire community.

Presented by Intercollegiate Athletics, Mason Madness features basketball entertainment and more. The men’s and women’s teams will be introduced and participate in team scrimmages, and the men will have a slam-dunk contest judged by the crowd.

Performances by several campus groups include the Mason cheerleaders, Masonettes, Doc Nix and the Green Machine, and Urbanknowlogy.

Highlighting the evening is a special performance by Step Afrika, the critically acclaimed group from Washington, D.C., known for its “kicks, stomps and rhythms mixed with spoken word.”
