Karen Pirhalla, BS Business Administration ’80, has been named to the newly created position of Arlington Campus executive officer. Prior to this appointment, she was Mason’s executive director for regional campuses operations.
“Karen brings a unique set of skills and experience to the position and has unmatched exposure to literally all aspects of Mason’s regional campuses within the distributed university model,” says Larry Czarda, Mason vice president for administration.

In her 30 years at Mason, Pirhalla has held progressively more responsible positions in administrative and academic units at Fairfax. She was a key player in the team that established the Prince William Campus, where she later became director of campus operations. For the past two years she has had an institutional perspective in overseeing Mason’s operations at Loudoun, Prince William and Arlington.
“As Mason continues to develop its presence in its most urban campus, Arlington, establishing all manner of administrative and operational systems is a priority, as well as recommitting to our longstanding partnership with Arlington County and the community,” says Czarda.
“I am confident that Ms. Pirhalla will once again be very successful in tackling a new set of responsibilities for Mason as we take a significant step forward in preparing to open Arlington II.”
In her new position, she will be based at the Arlington Campus and can be reached at 703-993-8333 or email@example.com.
