This year’s Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) slogan is “Give Hope, See What $2 Can Do,” focusing on the fact that any donation amount has a positive impact on those in need.
With over 1,300 charities in the campaign, there are many opportunities to find worthy causes that speak to each of us. The online directory at www.cvc.vipnet.org is easy to navigate (click Donors, then click Find Charity) and allows each person several options to search for charities by region, zip code and name.
One of these charities, Neighbor to Nation, will be represented at the Oct. 29 Faculty and Staff Enrichment Day on the Fairfax Campus. Stop by the CVC tables to meet them, get information on many other charities and drop off your pledge cards for entry into the first of two raffles, one in October and one in November.
The raffles include a certificate for four tickets to a men’s or women’s home basketball game donated by George Mason Athletics, one certificate for lunch for two at the Bistro and one certificate for George’s Restaurant. The dining prizes were generously donated by Mason Dining Services.
Mason Dining Services has also donated wooden nickels for $1 off the purchase of food or drink at any of their locations. These will be given to those who drop off their pledge cards on Faculty and Staff Enrichment Day (while supplies last).
The easiest way to pledge is through payroll deduction, which is available to faculty and staff. One-time donations using cash, a check, a credit card or stock are an option for all, and online donations can be processed through credit cards. These are charitable donations and are tax deductible as allowed by IRS regulations.
Helga Yunker in Human Resources and Payroll is Mason’s CVC coordinator this year and is hopeful that the Mason community will show its generosity during these difficult times. She can be reached at 703-993-4057 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Pledge cards, which have been distributed, can be sent to her at MS 3C3.
