Professor Emerita Pacheco Dies

Josephine Pacheco, Professor Emerita of History at Mason, passed away on Saturday, Aug.16, following several months of illness with cancer. She was 87.
She wrote or edited several books, including “The Legacy of George Mason.” She was director of the Center for the Study of Constitutional Rights at Mason.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Goodwin House, 3440 Jefferson Street, Falls Church, Va.
Pacheco retired from Mason in the mid-1990s but remained an active historian. Her final book, “The Pearl: A Failed Slave Escape on the Potomac,” was published in 2005.
