Fast approaching its 23rd year in operation, the Patriot Center on the Fairfax Campus is undergoing a $10 million renovation, and the first phase – including a new box office on the west entrance side (nearest Lot L) – has been completed.
The new box office has six windows inside the new box office lobby, as well as two outside windows for drive-up sales during the day.
The first show at the arena with the new centralized box office will be The Wiggles on Aug. 20.
“We wanted to direct our box office operations from one main location in order to better serve our patrons. As a result, the new box office became a key component to the first phase of renovations for the building,” says Patriot Center General Manager Barry Geisler.

Phase two of the renovations involves two new concession stands and two restrooms at the north entry. Two additional concession stands and two restrooms will be built at the south entry during phase three, which will also include new paint and ceiling tiles for the concourse. Renovations are expected to be completed in early 2009.
The Patriot Center is a 10,000-seat arena. Home to George Mason’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, the arena has had more than 8.5 million visitors attend more than 2,600 events since opening in 1985.
Over the years, the building has hosted concerts with such stars as Bruce Springsteen, Keith Urban, Gwen Stefani and the Jonas Brothers, as well as family shows such as Barney, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus and the Harlem Globetrotters.
Events scheduled for the building this fall include Disney on Ice “Worlds of Fantasy”; Enrique Iglesias with Aventura; American Freedom Festival with Alan Jackson and Trace Adkins; and Pro Live Boxing with Jimmy Lange.
