University Police to Be Assessed for Reaccreditation

The George Mason University Police department is scheduled for an on-site assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) on Monday, Aug. 11. A session for public comments will be held at 3 p.m. in Mason Hall, Room D5, on the Fairfax Campus.
University employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling 703-426-3551 on Aug. 11 between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Comments will be taken by the assessment team.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the police department’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. The assessment is part of the voluntary process initiated by the department to gain reaccreditation. The assessment team will examine all aspects of the department’s policy and procedures, management, operation and support services.
