Convocation Schedules, Speakers Announced

Convocation ceremonies for individual academic units will begin Thursday, May 15, at 10 a.m. The following are dates, times, locations and speakers for the convocations. The university's Commencement for all graduates will be held Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. in the Patriot Center.

Thursday, May 15

• New Century College—10 a.m., Concert Hall. Speaker: Walter Fluker, PhD, executive director of the Leadership Center and Coca-Cola Professor of Leadership Studies, Morehouse College
  
  
• College of Humanities and Social Sciences (undergraduate)—1:30 p.m., Patriot Center. Speakers: Haleh Esfandiari, director of the Middle East Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and Shaul Bakhash, Robinson Professor of History, George Mason University
  
  
• College of Science—2 p.m., Concert Hall. Speaker: Raymond Smith, chairman, Arlington Capital Partners
  
  
• Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering—6 p.m., Patriot Center. Speaker: Marc Willebeek-LeMair, PhD, chief technology officer for 3Com
  
  
• College of Humanities and Social Sciences (graduate)—7 p.m., Concert Hall. Speaker: Stanley Katz, lecturer with the rank of professor in the Woodrow Wilson School of Princeton University and president emeritus of the American Council of Learned Societies

Friday, May 16

• College of Health and Human Services—11 a.m., Patriot Center. Speaker: Daniel R. Levinson, JD, inspector general, U.S. Department of Health

• School of Public Policy—7 p.m., Concert Hall. Speaker: Rodney E. Slater, partner, Patton Boggs LLP, and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation

Saturday, May 17

• Commencement (all students)—10 a.m., Patriot Center. Speaker: Norman Augustine, retired CEO and chairman of Lockheed Martin, former president of Martin Marietta Corporation and former acting secretary of the Army
  
  
• College of Education and Human Development—2 p.m., Patriot Center. Speaker: Student Andrew Paparella, Initiatives in Educational Transformation
  
  
• School of Law—2 p.m., Concert Hall. Speaker: Elizabeth B. Lacy, retired Virginia Supreme Court justice
  
  
• Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution—2:30 p.m., Dewberry Hall. Speaker: Charles Dambach, president and CEO of Alliance for Peacebuilding

There will be a student Commencement rehearsal on Wednesday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Patriot Center. The rehearsal is recommended; however, attendance is not required.
