The Mason Forensics Team placed fifth in the 31st Annual American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament held at the University of Texas, Austin, April 5-7.
According to director Peter Pober, as one of only five school squads in the history of the national association to qualify students every single year, Mason’s team focuses its entire season on this culminating event.
In addition to the team’s overall success, senior Ian Summers was selected as the 2008 National Champion in Persuasive Speaking. Summers also placed third as a national overall speaker, and teammate Jeff Moscaritolo placed 10th.
Mason was the only school in the nation to have two of the top 10 overall speakers, and also had seven finalists, 10 semifinalists and 14 quarterfinalists.
Team member and senior Chrissy Kendall was honored nationally as one of the 16 All-Americans of Intercollegiate Forensics for her service, dedication and exemplary performances/speeches.
“How proud I am of all these students and how they represent our university with great professionalism,” says Pober.
