While Mason students were enjoying their spring break at the beginning of April, the Mason Bookstore on the Fairfax Campus was undergoing a complete makeover to brighten it up and give the store a little more campus flavor.

To veer away from the Barnes and Noble look and give the bookstore more of a campus feel, the author drawings that were displayed on the columns throughout the store were replaced with photos taken by Mason’s Creative Services photographers. Now, photographs of students celebrating International Day, the Johnson Center lit up at night, fireworks over Mason Pond and various shots of the campus during all seasons decorate the bookstore.

In addition, the carpet and tile were replaced and the store got a fresh coat of paint. The magazine rack that was against the back wall was moved to the front of the store. This created more floor space and let in more natural light through the row of windows that were blocked behind the racks.

The check-out area was also redesigned to better utilize the space. There are now five check-out areas instead of four, and there is enough room to fit as many as six check-out areas during periods of heavy traffic.
