New traffic patterns on the Fairfax Campus will be in effect beginning Thursday, March 6. These traffic patterns will remain in place during the construction of Parking Deck III (on the site of the former Lot F), which is scheduled to open in fall 2009.
A portion of Patriot Circle on the northeast side of campus will be closed between Lots E and G. Traffic heading west on Patriot Circle in this area will be diverted onto the new spur road to University Drive. To get back on to Patriot Circle, cars will be directed left at the traffic light at George Mason Boulevard and then right onto Patriot Circle.
A map showing the new configuration can be found online. The red dotted line shows the area temporarily closed.
Vehicles heading toward campus on George Mason Boulevard will not be permitted to turn left onto Patriot Circle unless they are going to Lot G or the handicapped parking area by Shenandoah Hall.
The southeastern entrance/exit to Lot E will be kept open to regular vehicle traffic. The western entrance/exit to Lot E will be closed to regular vehicle traffic. Only construction traffic and police/fire department access will be allowed.
The speed limit along the spur road is 25 mph and will be radar enforced by University Police. Motorists are urged to watch out for small children and stopped traffic entering and exiting the nearby Child Development Center.
