Four days ‘til Homecoming Week begins, nine days ‘til the block party and men’s basketball game against UNCW gets under way, and so many events in between!

Highlights of the week follow. All events are free and held on the Fairfax Campus unless otherwise noted.

Monday, Feb. 11

  • Homecoming 2008 Kick Off

    Johnson Center Atrium, noon to 1 p.m.

    Performance by Urbanknowlogy 101; meet the contestants for Rock the Runway, Mr. and Ms. Mason Pageant.

  • Office decorating contest winner to be selected. Winning office gets a catered continental breakfast.
  • “Rock the Runway” — Mr. and Ms. Mason Pageant

    Johnson Center Dewberry Hall, 8 p.m.

    Contestants display their talents, personal style, intellect and knowledge of Mason to prove who should be Mr. and Ms. Mason.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

  • Pictures with Gunston

    Johnson Center Atrium, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Digital photos will be taken with Gunston, the school mascot, and shared online.

  • “Rock the Mic” featuring comedian Ronnie Jordan

    Johnson Center Dewberry Hall, 8 p.m.

    One of the nation’s hottest new comedians and gifted gag writers, Ronnie Jordan, has been featured on Comic View and That Comedy Show, which airs on the Turner South Network. Cosponsored by Black History Month.

Wednesday, Feb. 13

  • Pep Rally

    Johnson Center Atrium, noon

    Rock your Mason spirit with the Green Machine, Mason’s Pep Band; the Mason cheerleaders; the Masonettes and Mason basketball players.

  • “Born to Rock” Student Talent Show

    Johnson Center Atrium, 7 to 10:30 p.m.

    Student performances and Urbanknowlogy 101. Cash prizes. Judging provided by Mason faculty and staff.

Thursday, Feb. 14

  • Homecoming Celebration at the Prince William Campus

    Bull Run Hall Atrium, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Mini pep rally with Gunston, Xbox tournament, photo booth, basketball shot contest, giveaways, food and refreshments.

  • Build-a-Bear

    Johnson Center News Center, 11 a.m.

    Build-a-bear for your someone special.

  • Faculty and staff day in Ciao Hall, noon to 1:30 p.m. Come dressed in your Mason gear to receive a raffle ticket for Mason prizes. Ticket numbers will be drawn frequently between noon and 1:30 p.m. It’s also half-price day for faculty and staff with your Mason ID.
  • Faculty/Staff Alumni Dessert Social

    Office of Alumni Affairs, Johnson Center, Room 122, 3 to 5 p.m.

  • Heartbreakers Ball Dance

    Johnson Center Dewberry Hall, 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Friday, Feb. 15

  • Alumni Association Beer Tasting

    George’s Restaurant, Johnson Center, 3rd Floor, 7 to 9 p.m.

    A local brewmaster will teach about the styles and history of beer. The cost is $20 per person; includes beer tasting, refreshments and a commemorative tasting glass. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to attend.

  • The Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering Annual Alumni Reception

    Brion’s Grille, University Mall, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

    Dean Lloyd Griffths will host. RSVP to by Feb. 8.

  • Homecoming Concert

    Johnson Center Dewberry Hall, 9 p.m.

    Artists W.A.L.E and Carbon Leaf will perform. The show is free to students with their Mason ID and $10 at the door for nonstudents.

Saturday, Feb. 16

  • Student Leader Alumni Reception

    Alumni Atrium, Mason Hall, 3 to 4:30 p.m.

    Were you an ambassador, a resident advisor, a peer advisor or a student government leader? Here is your chance for some well-deserved recognition for the contribution you made to student life. Re-connect with old friends and meet former and current student leaders who share your passion for making a difference at Mason. RSVP online.

  • Homecoming Block Party and Tailgate

    Parking Lot A, Fairfax Campus, 3 to 5:30 p.m.; lot opens at 2:30 p.m.

    Activities include a pep rally with appearances by the Masonettes, Mason cheerleaders, Gunston and more. Wander through the heated tents to visit with friends; meet alumni, faculty, staff and students; stroll through college row. Tents will include Mason’s family-friendly area that will have interactive games and crafts for little Patriots, as well as refreshments.

  • Patriots Basketball

    George Mason Patriots vs. UNCW Seahawks

    Patriot Center, Fairfax Campus, 6 p.m.

    This event is sold out except for a limited number of student tickets (students can pick up their tickets at the Patriot Center Box Office when they present their Mason ID); televised on ESPN-U

  • Postgame Fireworks

    Mason Pond

    Immediately following the game

  • Live@Damon’s

    Damon’s Grill, Student Union Building I, 8 to 11 p.m.

    Enjoy live music and food specials.
