Deadline for Employee Recognition Nominations Changed

The deadline for nominations for employee recognition programs sponsored by the Office of Human Resources and Payroll has changed. The new deadline is March 14, and the awards ceremony will be held on May 6, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall.

The Staff Senate has also announced that the deadline for receiving Outstanding Supervisor Award nominations has been changed to March 3. The award will be presented at the same ceremony on May 6.

Five awards will be presented as part of the HR program: the Outstanding Achievement Award, the Exceptional Support Award, the David W. Rossell Quill Award, the Margaret C. Howell Award and the Team Excellence Award.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is presented for achievements that result in significant benefit to the university, school, institute or department. These achievements improve processes, save time or money and/or improve customer service. The recipients will receive $500.

The Exceptional Support Award is designed to recognize employees upon whom departments rely for the smooth running of daily departmental functions and operations. These employees consistently demonstrate exceptional customer service, initiative, enthusiasm, commitment and energy. Recipients of this award will receive $250.

The David W. Rossell Quill Award is granted to administrative and professional faculty at Mason for working on projects or initiatives outside the realm of normal work duties that advance the university’s mission. The recipient will have shared his or her expertise on projects that have contributed to the stature of the department and/or the entire university.

This award also recognizes that the recipient displayed leadership while involved in this work. The award amount is $500 from the central awards account. Up to an additional $500 from department funds may be added to the initial award amount.

The Margaret C. Howell Award is granted to employees of the university with at least three years of service. This award recognizes those whose efforts continue the work of the late Margaret C. Howell who retired from Mason in 2002 after 20 years.

Howell worked diligently to develop respect, diversity and individual dignity throughout the university and the community. The winner will receive a plaque and $500.

The Team Excellence Award will be given to those who have demonstrated outstanding group achievement consisting of exceptional customer oriented services, cost and/or time savings, maintaining high safety standards, combining the talents of separate units and encouraging teamwork in the workplace. Up to $500 will be awarded.

Nomination forms can be found on the Human Resources web site under Forms and Materials. Completed nomination forms, which should be signed by the nominator, supervisor and department head, and letters of support should be sent to MS 3C3 Attn.: Reward and Recognition Office, e-mailed to awards@gmu.edu or faxed to 703-993-2601 by Friday, March 14.
