Michael Laskofski, interim director of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) for the past six months, was recently appointed director of the OSP.
Before taking on his interim role, Laskofski served as assistant director of the OSP for more than two years. As director, his responsibilities encompass both pre- and post-award duties. These include support for identification of funding opportunities, proposal processing, award negotiation and financial reporting.
“This position provides a great opportunity as we continue redefining OSP’s role in research administration at Mason,” Laskofski says. “Our work impacts many parts of the university, so it’s critical that we take a collaborative approach to ensure the changes we make have a positive lasting impact.”
Following discussions with more than 100 faculty and staff members, the decision was made last week by Provost Peter Stearns and has received strong support from those within the OSP and from consultants outside Mason.
“Over the last few months, Mike has rapidly restored morale to the office and improved its overall image,” says Matt Kluger, vice president for research and economic development. “His knowledge and ability to run the programs effectively, along with his responsiveness to faculty and staff concerns, made him the perfect candidate for the job.”
Laskofski came to Mason after managing various aspects of sponsored programs at Harvard University for more than six years. He has a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary and an MBA from Boston University.
