The Center for Global Education is offering the opportunity to travel to either Scotland or Central Europe during Mason’s Spring Break, from March 8 through March 16, 2008. The trip is open to both students and the general public, and is available for credit or audit.
The spring break trip to Scotland will focus on three major areas: Edinburgh, the Highlands and Glasgow. The trip includes sight-seeing excursions to places such as Loch Ness and the Rosslyn Chapel, and there will also be time allotted for shopping and cultural enrichment. Randolph Lytton, associate professor of history and art history, is faculty director for the tour.
The Scotland trip fee is $2,580 and includes round-trip airfare from Washington, D.C., to Scotland; airport transfers; in-country transportation; a double room accommodation in tourist-class hotels; some meals, including a welcome dinner, daily breakfast and a special Scottish banquet; guided tours and excursions, entry fees and administrative fees in the United States.
The spring break trip to Central Europe will be split between Prague, the Czech Republic, and Dresden, Germany. There will be tours of historic European places, such as the Prague Castle and the Albertinum Museum. Mills Kelly, assistant professor of history and art history, is faculty director for the tour.
The Central Europe trip fee is approximately $2,300 and includes a pre-departure orientation at Mason; round-trip airfare from Washington, D.C., to Prague; airport transfers; in-country transportation; double or triple room accommodation in tourist-class hotels; some meals, including a daily breakfast and welcome and farewell dinners; guided tours and excursions; entry fees and administrative fees in the United States, Germany and the Czech Republic.
An academic credit is available for both trip options; however, students must have at least a 2.25 GPA and pay an additional $285 in order to obtain a history credit for the trip. The credit is valid at the undergraduate or graduate level.
The application deadline for both spring break tours is Thursday, Dec. 13. For more information or to apply, visit the Center for Global Education web site.
