To make way for the construction of the new Patriot Circle spur road connecting Patriot Circle to University Drive, a large portion of Parking Lot F, located on the north side of the Fairfax Campus, has been closed.
The closing affects approximately 400 of the 939 total spaces in Lot F. Signs have been posted for the past three weeks to notify drivers.
The remaining part of lot F will be closed at the end of fall semester for the construction of Parking Deck III and the new Public Safety building. Parking Deck III will create approximately 1,650 spaces. The Public Safety building will be a two-story building of approximately 16,000 square feet. It will house both University Police headquarters and the Safety Office.
Once construction on the spur road is complete early in 2008, construction will begin on the parking deck and Public Safety building. Both structures are expected to be completed in the spring of 2009.
As an alternative, parking areas located at the Field House and the West Lot are available. Parking Services Coordinator Ann Moran notes that Mason provides a free shuttle service every half hour from those lots to the east side of the campus.
Portions of Lot E will also be blocked off shortly due to the construction project.
