Mason’s fall 2007 convocation, set for Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. in Dewberry Hall of the Johnson Center, will be simulcast to the university’s campuses in Arlington and Prince William.
“Celebrating the Present, Preparing for the Future” is the title of the event, which is open to the entire campus community.
President Alan Merten will lead a presentation on Mason’s safety procedures and the workings of the university’s crisis/emergency team.
Two significant anniversaries in Mason’s history will also be recognized: the 50th anniversary marking when Mason was first created as a satellite campus of the University of Virginia and the 35th anniversary marking when the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia declared Mason an independent university. Several community leaders, including Sharon Bulova and Gerald Connolly of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, are expected to be present to celebrate these anniversaries.
Refreshments will be served outside Dewberry Hall following the convocation.
