Mason’s fall 2007 convocation is set for Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. in the Johnson Center’s Dewberry Hall on the Fairfax Campus. “Celebrating the Present, Preparing for the Future” is the title of the event, which is open to the entire campus community. Mason alumni and city and county leaders are also invited.
President Alan Merten will lead a program that focuses on Mason’s various safety measures, including the workings of its campus crisis/emergency team and the Counseling and Psychological Services Center’s new “Gatekeeper” program, which is designed to train faculty and staff to identify individuals who may be troubled and give them the communication skills to encourage these persons to seek professional help.
Two special anniversaries in Mason’s history will also be recognized: the 50th anniversary of Mason opening its doors, when it was a satellite campus of the University of Virginia; and the 35th anniversary of the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia declaring Mason an independent university.
Refreshments will be provided outside Dewberry Hall at the conclusion of the convocation.
