Pam Patterson, who has been serving as interim dean of students since June 2006, was permanently appointed as the new dean of students and assistant vice president of University Life following an extensive national search, according to University Life Vice President Sandy Hubler.
“The collaborative relationships she has fostered have had a significant impact on University Life as well as the Mason community,” says Hubler. “I look forward to working with her and anticipate we will all benefit from the many initiatives she will spearhead.”
The dean of students is a key leadership position and assists with planning, management and evaluation of the division’s initiatives and services. In addition, the dean of students provides support for Student Health Services and the Offices of Leadership Education and Development, Judicial Affairs, Disability Services, Sexual Assault Services and Alcohol, Drug and Health Education. The dean of students is also responsible for promoting a culture where students can exercise their leadership and learn to respect differences.
Previously, Patterson has served as associate dean of students, associate director for University Services, associate dean for Judicial Affairs and associate dean for Residence Life. She came to Mason in 1998 from the University of Georgia, where she served as the coordinator for residence life and housing.
