Flags at Half-Staff for Oliver Hill

August 8, 2007

Virginia flag at half-staff
Gov. Timothy Kaine has ordered the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be flown at half-staff throughout Virginia in respect and memory of civil rights attorney Oliver W. Hill, who died Aug. 5 at the age of 100.

Hill was involved in legal efforts to desegregate public schools in the 1950s that led to the Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education ruling. He was born in Virginia, practiced law in the state and lived in Richmond at the time of his death.

The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, Aug.12.
