Mason shortstop and junior Brent Weiss and center fielder and junior Spencer Wiggins are two of the many George Mason players participating in summer league baseball, but the pair made themselves stand out last week when they were selected to their respective league’s All-Star team.
Weiss, playing for the Wilmington Stars, was selected to the Coastal Plains League All-Star team. Wiggins, a member of the Haymarket Senators, played in the Valley League All-Star contest. Wiggins also won the 60-yard dash competition, which was held prior to the game.
Weiss was one of two players selected from the Stars for the All-Star team. He is hitting .256 with a .340 on-base percentage, and he is 4 for 5 in stolen bases. He is hitting 30 points higher than the team batting average, and he is also hitting better than the league average.
Wiggins has played in 26 games and leads his team with 25 runs and 19 walks. He is 13 of 14 in stolen bases on the season.
