George Mason University Foundation Chair Michael Anzilotti has announced the appointment of David Roe, chief financial officer (CFO) of the George Mason University Foundation, as acting president of the foundation, effective July 1.
As CFO, Roe has served as an ex officio member of the foundation Board of Trustees and worked directly with the foundation board and president in developing fiscal policies, generating budgets and overseeing the foundation’s endowment and real estate portfolios.
His responsibilities have also included planning, financing and constructing two major real estate projects – the foundation’s Arlington building and the Fairfax Campus Potomac Heights student housing. During his tenure, the foundation’s overall asset base has grown to more than $200 million, and the endowment portfolio now exceeds $55 million.
Roe holds a BS in Accounting and an MBA, both from Mason. A CPA, he is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Northern Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
He has held a succession of positions of increasing responsibility with the Mason foundation since 1990 and has been an adjunct faculty member in accounting at Mason since 1998.
Most recently, he has been cited as a finalist in the Virginia Business Magazine “CFO of the Year” program (2006 and 2007).
Roe’s appointment follows the resignation of Judith Jobbitt, vice president for university development and alumni affairs and president of the Mason Foundation since 1999. Her resignation was effective June 30.
